Inclusion 8: What Defines You
WHAT DEFINES YOU
What defines you is what makes you unique.

Our identity and experiences shape how we see the world - Our opinions, beliefs, and values. Knowing who we are can help us to understand our place in the world.
We have many social identities:
• Socioeconomic Status
• Spiritual Beliefs*
• Ethnicity
• Sexual Orientation
• Gender Identity*
• Racial Identity
• Cultural Identity
These social identities as well as our lived experiences can sometimes create disadvantages (barriers) for some people, and these barriers are sometimes invisible to those who are not affected by them.
Knowing who we are helps us to recognize the barriers we do not face, but others do, and how we can work together to dismantle those barriers for the benefit of all.
*Some people do not have spiritual beliefs and others do not identify with a gender (agender folx).

PERSONAL REFLECTION
Reflect on your identity and experiences - Think about how you see yourself and how the world sees you.
Then share your thoughts on how your identity and experiences may influence your perspectives, opportunities, and decisions if you're comfortable sharing them.
