Inclusion 10: Values & Beliefs

Values
Belief is a feeling that something exists or is true or trustworthy (Merriam-Webster Dictionary).

Our values are like a compass. They can help guide our actions and our decisions. We choose our values. Our values can help give us direction when we are facing challenging situations and when planning for the future.
Examples of values are: honesty, loyalty, adventure, creativity, curiosity, kindness, spirituality and fairness.
Identify and discuss where you see the three traits in each scenario.
SCENARIO
The Basketball Team
The school's basketball team has been training hard all season. During the final game, the star player injures their ankle. The team is down by ten points with only five minutes left. Instead of giving up, the team rallies together. A player who usually sits on the bench steps up and scores several crucial points. The team ultimately wins the game.
Cross-Country Meet
A cross-country runner is struggling to keep up during a regional meet. Midway through the race, they see a competitor from another school fall and injure their leg. Instead of continuing to race past, the runner stops to help the injured competitor, ensuring they are safe and can get medical attention. Although they do not place in the race, they receive a sportsmanship award for their actions.
