POSITIVE TEASING
- shows closeness, affection and familiarity with another person
- the person being teased does not feel distressed
- takes place within a strong relationship
- strengthens the relationship
Negative TEASING
- alienates, criticizes, and embarrasses the other person
- the person being teased feels distressed
- takes place within an unhealthy relationship
- undermines the relationship
Are the two following scenarios examples of positive or negative teasing?
Doug and Mark have been friends since the third grade. They like to tease each other over who is the bigger fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Jaeda, the best soccer player in the school, teases Hasan about his weight when he struggles to run around the field and says that she hopes that he isn’t on her team. When the teacher speaks to Jaeda about her behaviour, she says that she was just joking.
